German universities want to develop strong academic and research collaboration to share modern knowledge with Government College University (GCU) Lahore for the sake of academic development in Pakistan.

A German education mission would visit GCU soon to explore possibilities of academic links with different departments of the GCU Lahore, said German Ambassador Dr Gunter Mulack during his visit to GCU Lahore.

He was accompanied by first secretary of the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany Islamabad Ellen Golz.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Aftab pointed out areas of academic interests where the GCU Lahore and German universities could launch joint academic venture.

The German Ambassador told the vice-chancellor that professors, scientists, researchers and renowned scholars of German universities would come to the GCU Lahore to deliver lectures on their respective disciplines and there would be mutual exchange of students and teachers.

Professor Dr Khalid Aftab told the ambassador that Germany had old links with the GCU Lahore as the first principal of the then GCU Lahore Dr W. Leitner was from German origin and he spent 22 years in the development of this great institution of the South Asia.

He was also great scholar of the Islam and oriental languages, and had even memorised many parts of Holy Quran to understand Islam, he added.
