The world community should provide maximum support in the shape of heavy machinery and financial assistance to meet the challenges in the earthquake devastated areas, State Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani said this while speaking in a PTV programme.

He said there was a massive devastation in quake-affected areas and heavy machinery and financial assistance are required to overcome the challenge.

To a question, Durrani said more co-ordinated efforts should be made to provide maximum relief to the people of far-flung areas within shortest possible time.

He said the civil administration in quake-affected areas of NWFP and AJK was shattered due to the earthquake, and immediately, the army was inducted to control the situation.

To another question, he said nearly 91 helicopters were, at present, taking part in relief activities, which have flown for about 2750 hours to provide relief goods to affected people.

To a question, he said more American helicopters are coming for relief activities. Some other countries are also sending their helicopters, as more helicopters are needed to meet the situation, he added.

Durrani said once again Alai main road has been cleared. But, unfortunately, bulldozers working there skid off 'from the road. In unfavourable circumstances and situation hectic efforts are being made to clear affected roads, he added.

He said relief goods are being airdropped in remote and far-flung areas. Besides these efforts, relief goods are also being provided through animals, he added.
