US Treasury Secretary John Snow on Wednesday urged Congress to extend expiring tax cuts and control spending to promote economic growth and create jobs.

"It would be exactly the wrong time, as some have proposed, to raise taxes," he said in remarks prepared for delivery to the Center for National Policy.

"Spending control, combined with lower tax rates, and a simpler, more pro-growth tax code, are a potent reform recipe for jobs, growth, and higher incomes," he said.
