The Joint Action Committee of Pakistan Steel Employees has deplored the designs of the Pakistan Steel Mills management that intends to lay off 4000 employees before its privatisation.

The concern was voiced in a meeting of the Committee, chaired by Abdul Sattar Butt, in Gulshan-e-Hadeed on Wednesday. The meeting condemned the preparation of the list of the employees, who would be terminated.

This unilateral decision by the Pakistan Steel management has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the employees.

The Joint Action Committee warned the management that if the decision was not rescinded it would resort to direct action to protect the right of the workers.

A sub-committee was also created to approach different labour unions and related organisations about the forthcoming privatisation.

The meeting decided that a movement against the privatisation would be launched after Eid. Dhanni Bux Samoon, Hidayetullah Amiri, Sulaiman Sanjrani, Naveed Aftab, Chaudhry Afzal, Maqsoodur Rehman, Razi Haider, Saifur Rehman Kundi, Haleem Khan and Mirza Maqsood participated in the meeting.
