Pakistani Americans have collected $141,000 to contribute to relief activities for earthquake victims in the northern areas of Pakistan.

Dr Wasiullah Khan, President of Pakistani American Congress (PAC) at a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday said that the amount was handed over to Pakistan Consul-General and Edhi Foundation.

He said that PAC had called an emergency meeting soon after receiving the news of the earthquake and decided to collect relief fund for the affectees.

All its office-bearers gathered in New York and collected $31,000 on the first day. All organisations of Pakistani American are working collectively by rising above mutual competition to raise funds and necessary goods.

He said that in Chicago, on October 19, 2005, $110,000 was collected, in which many organisations and people had contributed actively.

Dr Wasi said that Pakistani Americans had come to Pakistan to assess the extent of devastation and the need of assistance for earthquake victims.
