Shanghai's most active contract, January, ended at 36,660 yuan ($4,531) per tonne, down 470 yuan from Monday's close. Combined trading volume on the domestic market rose to 77,098 lots from 61,838 lots previously.
Benchmark London three-month copper futures had fallen $32.5 to $3,852.5 a tonne on Tuesday when the Shanghai market closed, versus $3,885 at the same time on Monday.
The LME three-months traded widely between $3,923.50 and $3,810 on Monday, a day after the metal fell as low as $3,752, more than 6 percent off on Thursday's record high of $4,018.
Spot copper in Shanghai dropped an average of 225 yuan to 38,000-38,150 a tonne on Tuesday.
Shanghai aluminium futures also fell on Tuesday as the fall on domestic copper futures offset positive impact from a rise in LME aluminium, traders said.
