The rupee shed 15 paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 71.40 and Rs 71.50, respectively.
In the international markets the dollar maintained its surge versus the other major currencies, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee opened the week on a negative note, as it depreciated its worth by five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's trading commenced at Rs 59.95 and Rs 60.05 on buying and selling counters, respectively. The greenback was traded at the opening rates as compared to Rs 59.90 and Rs 60.00 of Saturday. The volume of trading remained considerably low, the dealers added.
However, the local currency maintained its Saturday's closing levels and remained unchanged at Rs 105.50 and Rs 105.80 on buying and selling counters, respectively. The British pound witnessed fractional change in its value during the day's trading but finally closed at the opening levels, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee was up by 10 paisa against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 59.90 (buying) and Rs 60 (selling) against last week's rate of Rs 60 (buying) and Rs 60.10 (selling). It did not observe any further change in the second spell and closed at Rs 59.90 (buying) and Rs 60 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 105.30 (buying) and Rs 106 (selling) against previous rate of Rs 104.50 (buying) and Rs 105 (selling). British currency did not observe any further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 105.30 (buying) and Rs 106 (selling).
Euro opened at Rs 71.20 (buying) and Rs 71.80 (selling). It remained firm against the dollar in the second session and closed at Rs 71.20 (buying) and Rs 71.80 (selling).
