Indonesian share prices closed 0.27 percent lower on Monday in quiet trade, with investors holding back from building up positions ahead of the Eid-al-Fitr Islamic holiday next month, dealers said.

The Jakarta Stock Exchange composite index shed 2.880 points to 1,073.082. Volume was 632.92 million shares worth 805.74 billion rupiah (79.97 million dollars). Decliners led advancers 60 to 34, while 71 stocks were unchanged.

The rupiah was flat at 10,055-10,065 to the dollar compared to Friday's close of 10,060-10,070.

"The market was so quiet. I think investors are mostly already in a holiday mood so they don't really want to take fresh positions," said an institutional dealer with a state brokerage.

Bank Central Asia was flat at 3,325 rupiah while rival Bank Niaga gained 10 to 375. Bank Mandiri dropped 10 to 1,380 rupiah while Bank Rakyat Indonesia rose 75 to 2,475.

Telkom was flat at 5,150 rupiah while Indosat dropped 200 at 5,150.
