Fast bowler Jason Gillespie's hopes of a quick recall to the Australian Test side suffered a blow when he was ruled out of a first-class match with a bruised lung.

Gillespie, dropped after a poor Ashes tour, was hit by a delivery from Australian fast bowler Brett Lee in a one-day match between South Australia and New South Wales on Sunday.

Scans showed Gillespie had sustained "deep bruising" to his right lung, Cricket Australia said on Monday, ruling him out of the four-day match between South Australia and New South Wales starting on Tuesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia name their side for the first Test on Thursday (November 3).
