Punjab Deputy Inspector General of Police (Highway Patrolling), Syed Muhammad Saqlain Naqvi said that the number of highway patrolling police posts would be increased to 450 by next year to ensure round the clock patrolling, especially in remote areas for maintaining the law and order effectively.

The DIG said that out of total 450 patrolling police posts, 132 were fully operational while another 106 posts were in final stage of completion and remaining 212 would be constructed in second phase by the end of next year.

He said that the overall crime graph showed decrease as compared to last one decade in all the areas where 132 patrolling posts were operational.

He said up till now, 27 proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crime and 44 absconders were nabbed besides helping 14431 people in distress in addition to record number of 151 narcotics haul.

The DIG said that patrolling police had so far registered total 603 cases against criminals on the complaints of people with concerned police stations.

He said people injured in about 533 accidents were shifted to nearby hospitals where they were provided first aid and necessary medical treatment.

Saqlain Naqvi said that all SPs and DSPs had been directed to monitor the performance of their subordinates and ensure patrolling in their areas otherwise strict action would be taken against those found negligent.

He said a huge amount of rupees 6 billion was being spent on the execution of this plan mainly aimed at improving law and order situation and providing protection to life and property of citizens at their doorsteps through the launching of 'Mahfooz Punjab' programme.

He said a sum of rupees three million had been earmarked for the construction of one post, which consists of proper building to house the staff and a waiting room for visitors.
