Punjab tent manufacturers would make 210,000 tents for quake victims on war footings. Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique told a meeting here on Monday, an official said.

Concerned provincial secretaries, DCO Lahore, Director General Relief and representatives of Tent Manufacturers Association (TMA) participated in the meeting, the chief secretary chaired.

Salman Siddique added Punjab government intended to supply aforementioned tents to quake victims by November 30 at all cost, as the supply of tents was the only way to save the calamity-stricken people from extreme weather conditions.

He further said government would provide all necessary financial help and other resources to the manufacturers of tents required for timely completion of the task.

The Tent Manufacturers Association assured they would ensure timely completion of the task as it was their moral as well as national duty.

Meanwhile, the relief assistance for the earthquake victims was being collected in Sargodha region and so far 172 trucks, including 70 from Sargodha, 54 from Khushab, 34 from Mianwali and 24 from Bhakkar had been dispatched. The relief items included quilts, blankets, warm clothes, tents, medicines and food items.

Moreover, 54 trucks of relief items have been sent by social, political and trade organisations of Sargodha and 10 from Mianwali region.

Similarly, District Government Bahawalpur has dispatched 145 trucks of food and essential items donated by NGOs, Army, Rangers and private charity organisations. Out of these, 72 trucks were dispatched by District Government Bahawalpur, including nine trucks of beds, 1,833 bundles of blankets and 190 bundles of shovels and other items were sent to Rawalakot. Out of 145 trucks sent so far, 31 were dispatched by Corps Commander Bahawalpur, 17 by Pakistan Rangers, two by Ashraf Sugar Mills, four by Jamaat Ahle-e-Hadith, six by Jamaat-i-Islami, one by Income Tax Department, two by Fatima Women Development Organisation, seven by Edhi Welfare Society and five by Cholistan Development Authority.
