The minister elaborated in detail the mechanism of working in Senate and National Assembly and the stages through which bill introduced by the government as well as private members go through.
The minister also informed the delegation of positive results of grass-roots parliamentary system in the form of local government. He said that councils at district, Tehsil and union council levels have satisfactorily been functioning for the last four years and have close co-ordination and working relation with the provincial assemblies.
The minister for LG&RD emphasised the need and importance of imparting training to the parliamentarians. He also suggested that USAID could help arranging visits of the parliamentarians to various democratic states for having insight of working of their parliamentary systems and procedures.
The minister was of the opinion that democratic institutions in Pakistan need to be strengthened for which study tours of parliamentarians will help a lot in bringing about the positive and far-reaching results.
