The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on September 1, 2005 for the lowest income group up to Rs 3000 has registered nominal increase over previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above-mentioned group was recorded at 133.72 against the previous week's 133.45, showing 0.2 percent increase, according to the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. During the week under review, average prices of 6 items registered decrease, while those of 16 items increased with remaining 31 items' prices unchanged.

Items, which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review, included tomatoes, bananas, sugar, potatoes, masoor pulse washed and gram pulse washed.

Items, which registered increase in their prices, included onions, diesel, petrol, kerosene, LPG (11kg cylinder), mash pulse washed, chicken (farm), gur, egg (farm), firewood, mutton, cooked dal (plate), beef, moong pulse washed, wheat and vegetable ghee (loose).

Items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included wheat flour average quality, rice basmati broken, rice irri-6, bread plain (medium size), milk fresh, milk powdered (Nido), curd, vegetable ghee (tin), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), red chillies (powdered), garlic, tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked beef (plate), cigarettes K-2, coarse latha, lawn, voil printed, shirting, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal spng (Bata), elect. bulb (60-wats), match box, washing soap (nylon), bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, electric charges 1-100 and telephone charges.
