Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz presided over a high level meeting to review the flood situation in the country at Governor House here in Karachi on Saturday. During the meeting the Prime Minister was briefed about the position of River Indus and its present flood level which was termed as well within control.

The Prime Minister said that flood situation in the country is being monitored constantly and all relevant authorities and agencies are in a state of high vigil. Instructions have been issued that all people residing in low-lying areas must be evacuated to ensure safety.

The Prime Minister said that all preparations have been made to carry out prompt relief and rescue operation in the eventuality of threat of flood in any part of the country. The cabinet division has ample stock of relief goods and shall distribute them wherever and whenever it is required.

The Prime Minister complemented the federal government, provincial government and local administration for their co-ordinated efforts in carrying out flood operations.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over timely repair of Sukkur Barrage and complemented the armed forces for the excellent work. This, he said has greatly helped in alleviating flood situation in Sindh.

The meeting was attended by Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Finance Minister Sindh, Syed Sardar Ahmed, Home Minister Sindh, Rauf Siddiqui, senior officials and representatives of the provincial irrigation department.-PR
