Prime Minister of Bahrain Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa called on President General Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday as the two leaders reiterated their resolve to strengthen and promote cooperation in economic, trade and investment areas. President Musharraf welcomed the signing of the agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on economic, trade and technical cooperation signed between both the countries on Monday.

The president also hosted a lunch for the Bahraini prime minister.

Both the leaders discussed close bilateral relations existing between the two countries and the possibility of strengthening ties in different fields. Views were also exchanged on regional and international developments of common interests, particularly Iraq, the Middle East and Afghanistan situations. The role of both the countries in the war against terrorism also came under discussion.

While reviewing the situation in the Gulf region, both the leaders reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability in this region and stressed upon the need for establishment of relations among the states of the region on the basis of mutual respect and brotherhood.

The Bahraini prime minister lauded the role of President Musharraf in the fight against terrorism and his concept of Enlightened Moderation.

He said that because of the president's clear vision on the issue of terrorism, his stature had been e1evated in the eyes of the world leaders increasing the influence of Pakistan in the comity of nations.

The president praised the role of the Bahraini leadership in modernising and developing its infrastructure and diversifying its economy through liberal policies.

He hoped that the Bahraini prime minister's first-ever visit to Pakistan would bring both the countries closer and their economic, commercial and investment ties would be strengthened for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

President Musharraf warmly welcomed the prime minister and conveyed sincere greetings to him for a successful visit to Pakistan. He also conveyed his best wishes and regards to Bahrain King Shaikh Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
