According to the Planning Commission source, the meeting approved the construction of 20 small dams in NWFP over the next five years at an estimated cost of Rs 3.6 billion. Giving the details about the 20 dams, he said these would be constructed in eight districts of NWFP including Karak, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Noshera, Hangu, Abbottabad and Haripur. The main objective of constructing these dams was to irrigate 79,250 acres of agricultural land. The dams would be completed in next five years.
About other projects he said the meeting approved National Tuberculosis Control Programme, which would cost Rs one billion. The programme also included Rs 29 million foreign exchange component. The meeting also approved Rs 516.6 million enhanced HIV/AIDS control programme for Sindh Province.
The CDWP has also approved the establishment of 350 community schools in hard to reach Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The project would cost Rs 190.1 million, which was a Norwegian grant.
The source added the CDWP approved 100 solar homes' programme for each province, which would cost Rs 46.540 million.
The meeting also approved 500 kV Muzaffargarrh Transmission Line and Substation extension, which would cost Rs 6.77 billion.
For the introduction of computer education in 81 federal government model colleges in Islamabad Rs 166 million have been approved.
For the setting up of 100 kW Medium Wave transmitter and Broadcasting House at Gwadar Rs 263 million project has been approved by the CDWP.
For the construction of National Art Gallery in Sector G-5 Islamabad, CDWP approved the project which would cost Rs 456 million.
The meeting also approved a project for the construction of Allama Iqbal Faculty of Arts at Kabul University, which would cost Rs 491 million. For the flood forecasting and warning system of Nullah Leh basin in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Rs 369 million have been approved.
