GRANI GLASS LIMITED - AT THE THRONE OF THE PAKISTANI GLASS INDUSTRY:

Ghani Glass Limited was incorporated in 1992 and during 1994 the company was listed on stock exchanges. The Company set up its glass plant in village Shadi of district Haripur and started commercial production in 1995. This plant was the first to facilitate the GMP requirements of Pharmaceutical Industries. This demand resulted from their strong focus on product quality testament to which, is the ISO-9002 certification that the plant received in October 1998.

This made Ghani Glass the first ISO certified Glass Company in Pakistan. Within a short span of time, Ghani Glass became the leading manufacturer of glass products in Pakistan. When Ghani Glass was first formed, their production capacity was 50 million bottles per annum. With the passage of time, this capacity has been increased to 350 million bottles per annum.

Two mega size furnaces are controlled by auto optic fiber system, designed and installed by SORG, Germany. There are six high-speed machines, working around the clock, producing top quality glass bottles. Ghani Glass had led the way by introducing 8 section machines for the first time in the country, paving the way for other glass manufacturers to adopt the same technology.

To step forward for adoption of latest available technology in the world, the company has distinguished to introduce 10-section double gob bottle making machines, for the first time in the history of Pakistan. Ghani Glass has recently set up its own gas fired power generation plant to meet the electricity requirements of the plants at district Haripur for uninterrupted power supply to minimise production losses.

Further expansion plans are in the pipeline, which includes expansion of their new furnace and installation of triple gob machines.

A state-of-the-art two separate plants in the same premises at Village Shadi of District Haripur with its technologically advanced plant machinery, wide ranging logistical support and thoroughly trained professionals continues to efficiently cater to the diverse demands of both national and multinational companies.

QUALITY CONTROL AND FOCUS: Ghani Glass has practised a concept of maintaining high quality standards since its inception. The commitment of the management towards this objective is evident from the fact that:

The Company achieved ISO-9002 certification in 1998 and got the status of 1st ISO-9000

Ghani Glass has distinguished to introduce contamination free packing area for the first time in the history of Glass Industry in Pakistan.

HISTORY OF MERGING COMPANIES: Ghani Group acquired a closed glass plant from Official Liquidator, High Court of Sindh, Karachi during December 1999. Before acquisition Prince Glass Works Ltd, closed this plant for last few years due to heavy losses.

Starting of this closed plant and marketing of its product was a big challenge for Ghani Group. However, the management of Ka'as ul Musaf'fa accepted this challenge and took over major decisions. The company made heavy investment and set up a power generation gas fired plant within the premises of the plant for uninterrupted power supply to minimise the production losses. By the passage of time, and by the grace of Almighty Allah Subhana-hu-Tallah before merger, Ka'as ul Musaf'fa was the largest state-of-the-art glass plant of the country with full swing production facilities of Hollow and Flat glass.

After the start of production in early 2000 the company got its products approved from all multinational and national Pharmaceutical Food & Beverages companies meeting their quality standards.

Hollow Glass and Flat Glass are manufactured in two separate plants built within the same premises.

GRANI GLASS CLIENTS: The success and prestige of Ghani Glass is perhaps most evident from their distinguished list of customers which includes both multinational and national companies at the top of their field. By setting high standards for performance and production, and a deep sense for customer service, Ghani Glass has won the trust and co-operation of its more than 200 valued potential customers.

Ghani Group has been conducting time-to-time customer conferences for the last few years at PC Bhurbun, and sites of both the plants. These conferences are also a tool to further strengthen the business relations with our respected customers.

RANGE OF PRODUCTS - A COMPLETE AND DIVERSE OFFERING: After the merger, Ghani Glass offers a diverse range of products catering to the needs of mainly Pharmaceutical, and Food and Beverages industries. Ghani Glass I offers a broad spectrum of products covering all kinds of USP type III 7.5 ml to 500 ml glass bottles, jars and vials for the Pharmaceutical Industry. For a year, production of USP III 8 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml and 20 ml vials was started in response to demands placed by the Pharma companies.

Ghani Glass is the first company in Pakistan which introduced the idea of contamination-free packing by designing a separate packing area in the plant, untouched by human hands and then delivered to customers. This ensured that Pharmaceutical companies were delivered products, which had undergone an 'air cleaning' procedure, as opposed to the usual and unreliable procedure of 'washing'.

The Sheet Glass products of Ghani Glass II are the highest selling in Sindh, and its Sheet Glass and figured glass products are also being exported. Production of 2 mm and 8 mm thick glass can be executed from this plant. Besides plain glass, coloured glass can also be produced at this plant. The company plans to focus more on the export of Flat Glass.

There is a Figured Glass Plant in Ghani Glass II. A large variety of floral and geometrical patterned glass can be produced, the popular ones being Chambeli, Ghalicha and Bajri.

Ghani II also specialises in Hollow Glass and Flat Glass. Hollow Glass includes a diverse range of prime quality amber, green and flint glass bottles, jars and moulded vials for the Pharmaceutical, and Food and Beverages industry. More than 100 moulds have been made for different bottling requirements of the Food and Beverages industry.

HUMAN RESOURCES AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Ghani Group believes in recruiting, selecting and retaining the best human resources in the glass industry. A strong focus on social responsibility and employee care is a main stay of Ghani Group with management giving it top priority. The training and development of the employees takes the form of extensive on-the-job training and workshops and seminars, both in-house or outside workshop. Additionally, technical staff is sent to other glass plants outside Pakistan to remain updated on technological advances world-wide. Along with the sponsoring events, we also encourage and promote our employees to participate in sports and various extra curricular activities.

INTEREST-FREE OPERATIONS: It is truly an amazing fact that in this day and age, the operations of Ghani Group are totally riba-free, especially given the magnitude of the group. The group started to clean up their business from interest about six years back. The group does not take any loans from any financial institutions and has managed not only to survive, but also prosper and grow exponentially. The group does not have any fear of bankruptcy and is very comfortable in its current riba-free form.

THE END RESULT: So, did the proposed benefits of the merger actually materialise? So far, all the indications are positive. Ghani Glass entered the Food and Beverages Industry with a bang when Ka'as ul Musaf'fa was acquired and within a year, the company managed to capture maximum share of the Food and Beverages industry.

Moreover Ghani Group has also laid strong focus on its exporting activities in recent years, exporting products currently to 10 countries and are targeting for 20 countries in total by the end of their calendar year. Production at Karachi Plant of amber products will also be used to satisfy export demand of these products.
