Over 300 villages along the western and eastern banks of river Chenab were affected due to spate in the river but Irrigation department did not take any preventive measures to check the erosion in different areas. District Nazim Muzaffargarh, Alhaj Sultan Mehmood Hinjra said that more than 300 villages in Multan, Shujabad, Jalalpur Pirwala, Khangarh, Alipur, Shehr Sultan were badly hit and another spate of 40,000 cusecs would reach Muzaffargarh district in next 24 hours. Standing crops over thousands acres of land was devastated and dozens of dwellings razed to ground.

Engineers are expecting a big flood in summer because unprecedented snowfall that brought miseries for hilly areas in winter could bring a disaster for the people of plain areas.
