Frontier Works Organisation spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Khawaja Sohail Hafeez (Retd) has issued a press release to inform about the exact damage to Makran Coastal Highway due to torrential and heavy rainfall which caused unprecedented flood and havoc in the entire area from 7 to 11 February, 2005. The detail of damage caused to the two sections constructed by FWO is:

LYARI TO ORMARA SECTION: There was a breach of 70 to 80 metres in approach road on Hingole Bridge towards abutment on Gwadar side. The bridge remained submerged totally from 0100 hours to 1300 hours on 11th February. The structure of bridge remained intact, stable, safe and no structural damage has occurred to the bridge.

The damaged approach road has been repaired temporarily and was opened for all types of traffic ie light and heavy on 18th February.

Main carriageway on this section, culverts and bridges remained intact and withstood the onslaught/flood pressure. Minor erosion has occurred on shoulders at few places in Aghore area that have been repaired.

Despite all major and minor damages from zero point to Ormara, it is usable and all types of traffic are moving uninterruptedly.

PASNI TO GWADAR SECTION: The entire road of 132.7-Km remained completely intact with no damage to carriageway and structures. Traffic is moving continuously without any interruption. Pasni link road has been partially damaged at one place due to overflowing water from Shadi Kor River. However, it has also been opened for traffic.

There has been extensive damage on the section Ormara to Pasni (151-Km), which was constructed by three civil contractors under the supervision of the NHA.

Keeping up to the expectations of the nation, Frontier Works Organisation started the rehabilitation work and helped the effected people of the area.
