The Lahore High Court (LHC) is competent to proceed against the military officials as well as any citizen of Pakistan in the matter pertaining to misuse of official resources. This was submitted by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) M D Tahir in a rejoinder to a petition challenging allotment of lands to the military high officials.

He contended in his reply the plea taken by the General Head Quarters (GHQ) official that the august court could not proceed against any military official was incorrect. He said in the matter pertaining to misuse of public property, the courts could take action against any person involved in the misuse of public property.

He, therefore, prayed to the court to declare the allotment of the land to the military high officials as illegal, unconstitutional and without lawful authority. He also prayed to the court to accept his petition and direct the respondent government to cancel the allotments of land to the military high officials.

IIC TO CONSIDER BASANT ISSUE: A senior member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has sent copies of writ petitions and press clippings to the Islamic Ideology Council (IIC) with prayer to consider the issue of holding basant festival at government level, and submitted its recommendations to the government.

He also prayed to the IIC to recommend to the government to impose ban on basant festival. The mover M D Tahir contended that menace of kite flying was causing loss of human lives every year.
