German Consul General, Verena Graefin has commended the efforts rendered by the Minister for Education, Hameeda Khuhro for promotion of education in Pakistan. Speaking at a function organised by Pakistan-German Business Forum (PGBF) on Monday, she observed that it was encouraging to witness that some people were engaged seriously in enhancing the literacy rate of Pakistan.

However, she pointed out that it was still a lot more required to achieve considerable progress in this regard. She specially commended the efforts of Education Minister, Hameeda Khurho and commended the priority she gave to education.

Earlier, Dr Hamid Jaffer of The Citizen Foundation (TCF) gave a presentation on the working of his organisation in the field of education. He introduced TCF as a non-profitable institution working for the interest of marginalised section of people.

The institution gave utmost priority to education and spent a lot of money for this cause. It created schools in rural and slump areas with a high participation and low drop out rate, he added.

About fund raising, he pointed out that the institution was managing its expenses mainly from the corporate sector and expatriate-Pakistanis. Discussing the standard of education being imparted by the institution he referred to the rating of JCR-VIS which awarded the institution rank 8, considered as quite good.

President PGBF, Razak Bengali also spoke on the occasion and urged on the corporate sector to voluntarily contribute towards their social responsibility.
