Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday ordered probe into the alleged corruption by former Sindh minister Imtiaz Sheikh, precipitating crisis of confidence between PML central leadership and Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim. Major-General Farooq Ahmad, head of Prime Minister Inspection Team, has been tasked to conduct the probe within 30 days and report back to the PM. The team is expected to leave for Sindh by Wednesday.

The decision to hold in-depth probe was arrived at a meeting which PML President Shujaat Hussain and Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain had with the Prime Minister within hours of latter's return from Saudi Arabia.

The Prime Minister later on briefed President Pervez Musharraf about the crisis besetting the Sindh government.

The official press release on this meeting, however, made no direct mention of the crisis.

According to the release, the President and Prime Minister exchanged views on the political environment in the country. "The law and order situation as well as other important national issues also came under discussion during the meeting".

They expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of Ashura-e-Muharram, expressing hope that the holy month would pass peacefully in a spirit of brotherhood, harmony and unity, the release added.

The Prime Minister also briefed the President about his visit to Saudi Arabia and his interaction with the Saudi and other world leaders who were there to attend the economic forum meeting, and his forthcoming visit to Iran.
