A large number of contractual primary school teachers from different cities of interior Sindh on Thursday staged a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club. They also staged a sit-in and blocked the road for more than two hours. Holding banners and placards, the protestors were chanting slogans against the authorities concerned. The protestors said that 4,000 primary school teachers were appointed in 2001 on contract for three years in different districts of interior Sindh. They were performing their duties satisfactorily and dedicatedly, but after completion of three-year period their contracts were not extended.

They said that they are going on their duties and still they are not informed about their future. They are also not being paid their salaries. The protesting teachers said many posts of primary school teachers are still vacant, but the contractual teachers are not being regularised.

They demanded of the government to regularise all the contractual primary school teachers and clear their due salaries so that they could perform their duties with peace of mind.

They threatened that if government would not take any step in this regard the protest could be spread. They also said that they could surround Sindh Chief Minister House to raise their voice.
