NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Wednesday inaugurated three big projects in Peshawar City that would cost Rs 380 million and would be completed in less than two years span. These projects would shape the beauty of Peshawar, the metropolitan city of the Frontier province. These projects included Burn Center at Nishtarabad, Fly-over at Rahman Baba Square and construction of Srai (Musafirkhan), having capacity for staying of 250 to 300 persons.

Provincial ministers, members of the National and Provincial assemblies, district and town nazims and high-ranking officials attended the ceremony.

Director General CD and MD Sareer Ahmad Khan briefed the Chief minister about the three projects. The Burn Center's building would be completed in less than three years with the cost of Rs 40 million and would provide medical cover to the people of Peshawar, the whole province and the patients from neighbouring country of Afghanistan.

Similarly, Rs 70 million and Rs 2 million have been spent on Rahman Baba Square project, in which two under passages have been completed under the Railway line. The second phase of the project would cost Rs 260 million and Rs 7 million that involves a fly-over with 500 meter and 7.3 meter width and breadth, Hospital road's linkage with GT road, the widening of Jail Charsadda road, Hospital road, GT road, Bacha Khan Square etc.

This project would reduce traffic hazards in Peshawar and would bring beauty to the capital city of the Frontier province.

The Musafirkhana at Khyber Teaching Hospital for 250 to 300 persons would cost Rs 7.5 million that would provide night staying facilities to the poor and attendants of patients.

The Chief minister was briefed that Rs 1.81 billion have been sanctioned for various developmental activities in Peshawar including establishing a Modern Bus Terminal, road lights at Ring road from Bara Chowk to Charsadda road, construction, rehabilitation and widening of urban and rural roads, construction of a mother child hospital at the defunct GTS stand, construction of River Kabul Canal road from Warsak to GT road, acquisition of 110 kanal of land for establishment of medical university at Peshawar, Mental Hospital at Hayatabad, acquisition of 188 kanal of land for SOS village.

These projects would cost Rs 1.17 billion, Rs 20 million, Rs 60 million, Rs 200 million, Rs 56 million, Rs 43 million and Rs 32 million respectively.

The chief minister was told that 34 percent construction work has been done on the mother child hospital and construction work on two-degree colleges, one each for male and female at Hayatabad was at full swing that would fulfil the educational requirements of the area.

The chief minister warned against the use of any substandard materials in the developmental activities. He assured the provision of resources quickly if the pace of work got accelerated without compromising the quality of work and if the projects were completed before stipulated time.
