The Pakistan Economic Forum (PEF) announced on Wednesday that it would send food, medicines, quilts and other goods to help those struck by the recent rains and floods in Pasni, Gwadar and Turbat. PEF chairman Muhammad Ameen Chappal has also announced that a fund with initial capital of Rs 10 million had been set up for social welfare and relief work to be carried out in calamity hit areas. He said that this fund would grow with the passage of time and its activities would be expanded.
Chappal said affected areas in Balochistan were facing shortage of potable water. To meet this need, two water tankers purchased at a cost of one million rupees, were being sent to Balochistan.
He said he would appeal President General Pervaiz Musharraf to set up relief fund on the pattern of funds established for the help of tsunami-hit people.
Adviser on Local Bodies Waseem Akhtar, Adviser on Health Faisal Gabool and Hanif Tayyab have appreciated the work being done by the PEF.
