Many a times this has been brought into the notice of the local administration to take some corrective measures to streamline the traffic hazards but every time it has been given a deaf ear. Building material shops constructed for the residents of DHA and the encroachment have narrowed the passage for the bazar. Tractors, trolleys, donkey carts and vans cause traffic jams.
Prior to the construction of the new airport terminal we were told that Ghazi Road would be widened upto 20 feet and that all the shops close to Bhatta Chowk would be demolished or might be shifted to Badian Road. The previous government also planned to construct an overhead bridge or an underpass on the crossing of Ghazi and Badian roads but later on all those plans were scratched due to reasons best known to the new regime. Only a few feet on four of its sides were widened at Bhatta Chowk which could not remove the traffic hazards.
It is wonderful to watch the new airport building which is standing majestically with all its architectural beauty and grace but one is terribly hurt to watch its ugly approach from Bhatta Chowk where a beast is standing in the shape of filth and a traffic jam.
The Chief Minister of Punjab is specially concentrating on removing the traffic hazards by building an underpass at various places in the city. Through you esteemed daily, may I request him to visit this part of Ghazi Road without any prior information to assess the difficulties of the total residents himself.
