The Nordic telecommunications equipment groups Ericsson and Nokia announced separate third-generation mobile phone deals Thursday with a subsidiary of the Taiwanese telecoms operator Far EasTone. The Swedish group Ericsson said it had won a WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) network expansion order from Far EasTone and its subsidiary Yuan-Ze, but did not provide financial details.

Nokia of Finland said it had signed a similar deal but also did not provide details, though it did say in a statement that equipment deliveries would begin immediately.
