The Karavan Pakistan is organising the cleaning of P&O Plaza (Bandookwala Building), I.I. Chundrigar Road, on February 5 and 6 through Karavan Virsa Volunteers after cleaning the Shahi Qila, Lahore, Darawar Fort, Bahawalpur, the Holy Trinity Cathedral and Wallace Bridge in Karachi. The cleaning and washing of the P&O Plaza is the first major voluntary effort by Karachi's adult citizens to improve the city's environment through heritage safeguarding. The cleaning effort for the 250-foot long facade will begin on February 5 morning and will continue until the evening of February 6.

In the fifth Karavan Heritage Cleaning Initiative, several companies have volunteered their officers and personnel as workforce.

The companies that are providing over 100 volunteers to undertake the cleaning effort include Shamsi Builders, Shaheen Construction Company, Ziauddin and Company, CALECO, Adnan Asdar Associates, Pakistan State Oil, FTC Management Company Limited and Alcop.

Shamsi Builders and Shaheen Construction Company have erected free-of-charge scaffolding for undertaking the work, while I.I. Chundrigar Road Steering Committee is facilitating this effort.

Karavan Chundrigar Road Heritage Fest, co-ordinated by Samina Peerzada, will be held on February 6 from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm in which over 300 school children, belonging to 10 schools, will give performances, ranging from songs, tableau, dance and puppet shows.

This event will bring children of diverse backgrounds together - from the streets of Lyari to across the bridge in Clifton - in celebration of the diverse culture and heritage of Karachi. Karavan Mera Pakistan Compact participating schools include Clifton High School, DHA Public School, DEWA, Jennings Private School, Prime Home School, SCINOSA Day Home, Shah Wilayat Public School, SMS Aga Khan School, The Hampton School and Woodland Secondary School.

The Karavan activities are held to foster a sense of identity and pride and to preserve heritage for a culture of peace, national integration and development.
