The issues regarding acquisition of land for the plant, new sewage system, funding and other related matters came under detailed discussion in the meeting.
The minister informed the meeting that six projects of Common Effluent Plants - three each in Karachi and Punjab province will be started.
He issued directives for formation of committees consisting of three to four representatives of associations, City Government, Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives and Project Consultant. The committee will submit it after Ashura for further action.
It was informed that feasibility studies for selected priority projects in Karachi have been completed with ADB's assistance. The project will be implemented by private sector while Association of Trade and Industry will play a major role.
Jehangir Khan Tareen also held a meeting with the visiting Moroccan delegation headed by Moroccan Minister for Trade and Commerce Mushtapha Mechahouir.
He told the delegation that Pakistan was keen to develop bilateral ties with Morocco politically and economically, particularly in the field of tourism, hotel and housing.
He pointed out that Pakistan has expanded trade links with USA and European Union (EU) in the government of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
"We are keen to expand trade links with the brotherly country of Morocco," said the minister.
Tareen acknowledged Morocco's wonderful achievements in the field of tourism, hotels and building industry and sought joint ventures/investment in these fields.
The minister informed that Model Industrial Parks under public/private partnership have been established.
He said Pakistan is focussing on textile sector while agriculture is also a major area and can be focused.
Jehangir Khan Tareen observed that visits of businessmen between Pakistan and Morocco can help promote economic relations between the two countries.
He said he plans to visit Morocco for further fostering the existing political and economic ties.
Responding to views of the federal minister, the Moroccan Minister for Trade and Commerce described relations between Morocco and Pakistan as exemplary.
He informed that Morocco exported fertiliser worth US dollars 80 million to Pakistan.
He said Morocco is pursuing a liberal policy since independence and sought joint ventures with Pakistan in the fields of information technology, tourism and textile.
He said Morocco can import certain items from Pakistan and invited Jehangir Khan Tareen to visit Morocco. He desired promoting strong trade relations with Pakistan.
Jehangir Khan Tareen thanked the Moroccan minister for extending invitation to him and hoped for better trade and investment relationship between the two countries.
