He said that in past Wapda used to be blamed for the load shedding, but now the SNGPL has also started load shedding of the gas.
He demanded of the provincial government to exercise its powers and called the higher authorities of both the companies to find causes of the load shedding and resolve the same timely.
Anwar Kamal Khan Marwat, parliamentary leader of the PML (N) recalled that few days back, the Chief Executive Pesco, Brig Tahir Saeed Malik was called to the assembly for talks. But, he held consumers responsible for the load shedding and load management in various parts of the province.
He said that the company had miserably failed in supply of interrupted electricity to the consumers.
Anwar Kamal said that people of the province had grievances against the company and they could be seen registering their protest through road blockades in different parts of the province.
He said that although the province was producing major share of the hydropower but still load shedding was going only in this province, which was injustice with the people of this federating unit of the country.
Comparing NWFP situation with Punjab, he said that although power theft is high in that province but still there is neither any power load shedding nor any technical fault.
Bashir Ahmad Bilour of the ANP said that federal government is giving Rs 12 billion subsidy to Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) for provision of subsidised electricity to consumers. But, in NWFP there is no subsidy and power load shedding is rampant in our province.
Rejecting the contentions of the Pesco about the power stealing, he said that province is generating big share of the electricity. He said that the ratio of power stealing in Karachi and Lahore was high than our province and demanded of the provincial government to raise the matter with the federal government.
Abdul Akbar Khan of PPP-Parliamentarian also urged the government to take the matter seriously. He said that although water and power is the subject of federal government, but the massive load shedding is creating law and order situation, which is a provincial subject.
He was also of the view that power stealing in Multan and Faisalabad is many folds higher than in NWFP.
He said that if the government really believes that Wapda was not giving justice to the people of the province, then why they were using its law-enforcement agencies against the protesters.
Khalid Waqar Chamkani complaint of both load shedding and over billing by the company.
In response to the outburst of the members from both treasury and opposition benches, Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq acknowledged the presence of heavy load shedding and complaints of over billing against the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco).
He said that beside general consumers, the provincial government was confronted with the problem of over billing of the company. However, he said that by properly tackling of the matter the government has saved Rs 270 million.
He assured the house that all constitutional means would be utilised for this purpose and said that another meeting would be held with the higher officials of the company.
Regarding the allegation of power theft, he said that it was much less than other provinces of the country. He said that the provincial government and its elected public representatives themselves have supported the company in this connection resulting in the decline of power stealing into some extent.
He said that the provincial government would talk to the higher authorities of the company for elimination of both load shedding and over billing.
He warned that if the situation again remains the same, then they would announce their future line of action.
Later, the speaker Bakht Jehan Khan adjourned the proceedings of the house till Thursday 10.00 am.
