Additional Secretary Academics, Dr Mehboob Ali Sheikh said existing Intermediate commerce curriculum needs to be synchronised with modem needs. Speaking at the closing session of a 'Curriculum Development Workshop for Intermediate Commerce', organised by Commerce Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences at the CIBES campus, he said deliberations and recommendations through such forum contribute and help greatly in designing and revising the curricula to meet the future demands.

According to press release issued here on Wednesday, he urged upon institutions and individuals from the private sector to adopt government schools to contribute towards improvement of the educational standards.

He said, earlier, the faculty of CIBES had realised the need of revising Intermediate Commerce curriculum and after in-house deliberations' input documents were prepared, which were shared with the teachers and professionals dealing with the same subject.The curriculum development workshop was arranged to shape recommendations for the perusal of higher authorities, the statement said. The subjects focused in the workshop were Accounting Part-I and Part-II, Principles of Economics, Principles of Commerce and Money and Banking. Faculty, professionals from leading public and private sector institutes and organisations attended the workshop and suggested the recommendations on curriculum revision of these subjects, the statement said.

After four sessions of analyses of the existing syllabi of the Intermediate Commerce subjects, the Syndicate finalised recommendations and same were presented in the closing session of the workshop.

The faculty and professionals of the commerce subjects emphasised the need of bridging the gap between local and international curricula. The recommendations also brought to light the need of providing practical and professional orientation to learners through value addition and revision of the existing syllabi, the statement said.

Executive District Officer-Higher Education Professor Raees Alvi, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop, stressed upon the need of conducting such workshops and presenting recommendations for making curricula comprehensive and up-to-date.

He further said that serious action must be taken on the recommendations of such workshops so that the educational system could meet the international educational standards.

Professor Alvi added that the recommendations of the workshop must be sent to higher authorities for incorporating the suggested changes in the syllabi of the subjects.

Chairman BIE Professor Syed Iftekhar Hussain Zaidi, chief guest of the closing session of the workshop, suggested that the curriculum development was a continuous process and it should not be stopped at any stage.

He invited the audience to come forward and help his office for the cause of educational development.

Principal CIBES Cdr. PN Abdul Raza, (Retd.), presented the welcome address and at the end of the closing session, Vice Principal CIBES Professor Saadia Farhat Quddusi gave vote of thanks.

Whereas, Dr Mehboob Ali Sheikh distributed college shields and certificates among the workshop participants.

Javed Rasheed of Curriculum Wing, Ministry of Education Islamabad, Chairman CIBES, Irfan Nadeem, Vice Chairman CIBES Omer H Karim, Executive Director Commerce Educational Trust (CET) Mohammad Arif Dossal, members Managing Committee CIBES, principals of various colleges, delegates and faculty CIBES attended the workshop.-PR
