The Senate chairman thanked the Secretary General for supporting revival of Pakistan's membership in the Commonwealth.
He said that Pakistan's re-entry in this important association would provide a chance for closer cooperation and promote interaction among the Pakistani Parliamentarians and the member states.
Soomro said that Parliament of Pakistan is sovereign and the democracy has been fully restored and taking roots in the country. He briefed the visiting officials on the working of the Senate and its Standing Committees.
Expressing pleasures over Pakistan's re-entry into commonwealth fold, Matthew Neuhaus said that Commonwealth was keen to assist Pakistan to strengthen its democratic institutions.
He lauded Chairman Senate's contribution and his regular meetings with the Secretary General and other officials of the Commonwealth, which paved the way for Pakistan's re-entry in the fold of Commonwealth.
They also discussed the steps to be taken to consolidate the democratic system in the country.
The Director of Political Affairs of the Commonwealth also informed the Chairman Senate that the Commonwealth would organise a seminar for the Parliamentarians of South Asia next year.
It will provide an opportunity to promote interaction between parliamentarians and various segments of the society, he added.
