The opposition senators staged a token walkout on the issue of military dictatorship and high increase in the prices of petroleum products on Wednesday in the Senate. Senator Rukhsana Zuberi raised the point of order on the issue of increase in oil prices and criticised the ministry of Petroleum's policy through which it has paid 2.5 percent more freight charges which, according to her, was the root cause of the high raise of oil prices.

"Senate must give a ruling over the issue, she demanded.

Earlier, Senator Professor Khursheed condemned the military government stance over the issue of Balochistan and remarked that Sui issue and rape of the lady doctor show failure of government in maintaining law and order. He said the opposition condemned military intervention in Balochistan, adding the country is facing a political and constitutional crisis inside and outside the country.

The MMA Senator said the opposition will never accept the military dictatorship and demanded provincial autonomy for Balochistan province.

Senator Azam Khan Swati said that government must adopt the devolution of power policy and due quota in jobs. Gas provision to the inhabitants of Balochistan, proper management in budgetary allocations and resources are the rights of Baloch people, he added.

Swati said that there was a risk that political instability could divert foreign investors especially because of Balochistan issue and demanded that the issue must be resolved through dialogue.

Foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, while answering a point of order raised by Senator Gul Naseeb, said that no dictation was being taken by the government in compiling of syllabus.

He said that even on the crucial time of Iraq war when there was an international pressure on Pakistan to surrender in favour of the US, Pakistan was not diverted. On the issues of counter terrorism, counter proliferation and WMDs, Pakistan has its own foreign policy, the minister added. Senator Yasmeen criticised policies of the PIA, which have created misery for the common man and demanded reforms in policies to provide comfort to the travellers, as there has been a diversion towards other airlines.

Ammanullah Khandrani reprimanded the statement of Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao to vacate 500 houses and 10 colonies in the Sui area.
