Pakistan has exported tobacco worth dollars 13.226 million during financial year 2003-04 registering a growth rate of 111.68 percent over the previous year 2002-03. Federal Secretary Commerce Tasneem Noorani was told this during a briefing given to him at Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB). The PTB Chairman Sahibzada Riaz Noor gave the briefing that was also attended by the senior officers of the board.

Sahibzada Riaz Noor said PTB was playing important role in the promotion of tobacco crop cultivation by increasing the yield of tobacco, improvement in its quality and introduction of international grading structure.

He added as a result of the research and development and extension activities, Pakistan was then producing one of the quality of tobaccos, particularly, Flue Cured Virginia in the world. He further said Pakistan was the 5th largest producer of the best Flue Cured Virginia tobacco in the world.

The PTB chairman further told the federal secretary commerce that Pakistan Tobacco Board was successfully devising and implementing a comprehensive pricing and marketing system.

It was emphasised the efforts should be made to ensure the pricing system achieved improvement in quality, maintained price competitiveness and took interests of the growers as well as the manufacturers/ exporters into account.
