The reorganisation of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) will be carried out in order to improve its performance and keeping the city's growing population and present day conditions in view. This was stated by KWSB Managing Director Brigadier Iftikhar Hyder, while chairing a meeting regarding restructuring of Water Board here on Tuesday. He said that services of skilled workers will be utilised keeping their educational ability and technical know-how in view.

In the meeting, the city government was represented by Saif-ur-Rehman, Gulshan Town Nazim Abdul Wahab, Landhi Town Nazim Jamil Ahmed Khan and Nazim Karachi's representative Saleem Azhar.

KWSB deputy managing directors, Shahid Saleem, Israr Zaidi, Syed Akhlaq Hussain, Arshad Javed, Anis Farooqi, Board Secretary Mahmood Qadir, Director (training) Tehsin Manzar and Director (design) Javed Shamim were also present in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Brigadier Iftikhar pointed out that jurisdiction of the Water Board had extended during the last few years, while there are reports of including the Cantonment boards into its limits whereafter its responsibilities will increase further.

He directed that while carrying out planning for future, it must be ascertained as to how many more people would be needed to match the Water Board's limits as well as the population growth.

He said that care should also be taken as to how many people should be there in the technical department to match the population ratio.

Brigadier Iftikhar also called for measures to improve the KWSB's recovery position, while planning be chalked out for its development schemes.

He said that proposals be prepared for making the Training Section of Water Board more efficient and functional.

On the occasion, all the meeting participants expressed their views openly.

It may be mentioned here that restructuring of KWSB is being done on the special directive of President Pervez Musharraf, while City Nazim Naimatullah Khan too has given instructions to the Water Board to initiate immediate measures in this regard.
