During the talks, the two sides decided to develop interaction on the experts' level conducting research work for optimum utilisation of the water resources, he said, adding a joint project could be undertaken for developing wastewater treatment technology.
China had also offered Pakistan desalination technology to help sanitise seawater, which could bring about a revolution in overcoming the water shortage problem in the country," said a senior official of the Tianjin Institute of seawater desalination, Ruan Guo.
In an interview, he claimed that the seawater after its purification through the newly developed technology could be used for drinking, and agriculture and industrial purposes. A package of that offer had been formally sent to Pakistan through its embassy in Beijing, he added.
The Chinese company has already installed a seawater desalination plant at the under-construction Gwadar seaport as its pilot project to introduce the technology. This plant has been provided as a gift, under a bilateral co-operation agreement.
"The daily output of seawater desalinated world-wide comes to 23 million tons, and is growing at an average annual rate of 10 to 30 percent," said National People Congress Deputy, Lu Jinga.
He urged governments at all levels to include desalination and utilisation of seawater in their water resource development plans, and encourage manufacturers to become involved in desalination and utilisation of seawater.
Lu said China could join hands with its friendly countries to further develop that technology for their mutual interest.
