Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Dr Muhammad Shafique Chaudhry has directed the Excise & Taxation Director General to restore the computer system of the Motor registration branch on emergency basis, keeping in view the rising work-load on the branch so that timely registration of new vehicles could be ensured.

According to an official here on Tuesday, the minister while taking strong exception to the complaints published in the local press in this regard said the public was facing great difficulty due to abandoning of the registration work in the motor branch Lahore.

The minister said he had approved a special fund of Rs 1.2 million for new computers. He directed the department to utilise all resources for the installation of new computer system at the earliest in view of the difficulties being faced by the general public. He expressed his satisfaction over the issuance of provisional registration certificates to the applicants and hoped the issuance of computerised registration certificates would be ensured after the installation of new computer system.
