Naimatullah declared that development work will continue and no impediments will come into the way. Besides people belonging to various walks of life and journalists, also present on the occasion were EDO, works, Sarfraz Shah, EDO, health, Dr Memon, project director Professor Dr Abdul Samad, deputy project director Dr Fayyaz Alam, Nazim Sajjad Haider Dara, Professor Dr Zahid Hussain and other officials.
Naimatullah Khan pointed out that development activities depend on available resources and the city government is thankful to President Pervez Musharraf for announcing three mega projects.
He said 50 percent work on the Lyari Expressway and 39km of Northern Bypass have been completed while remaining 13km of bypass will be completed in the next 6 to 8 months.
He informed that K-III water supply project is in the completion stage and will be over within a year.
Naimatullah Khan told the gathering that a MoU has been signed with a US firm for Karachi Mass Transit project while another agreement has been entered into with a US company for desalination of seawater.
He said for treatment of sewerage water, an agreement is being signed with yet another American company. This water could be used for plantation and industrial purposes. He said foreign investors are being searched for the installation of treatment plant here.
He said he has already announced that he would not go on foreign visits. But he is confident to succeed in finding out the investors.
The Nazim said he is endeavouring to make Karachi a peaceful city of lights having the best of infrastructure.
In his address, he appealed to the people of Karachi not to pay any heed to rumours and instead look at the development work being carried out. He said not only in Pakistan, but abroad also, the development work of the city government is being appreciated.
He said Pakistanis, who met him at Khana-e-Kaaba and Masjid-e-Nabvi, blessed him with their prayers and requested for continuity of development process.
Naimatullah Khan said as city Nazim, he presented exemplary budgets and he is confident that in future also, budgets with still higher allocations will be presented.
He said that establishment of Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases will prove a source of blessing for the people of Karachi where people with heart diseases could get modern medical treatment.
He said the institute will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in February.
He informed that besides this institute, Chest Pain Centres will also be set up at ten different places so that people suffering from heart attack could reach a centre within 5 to 10 minutes.
He said these centres, which will have an ambulance and doctor, will be set up at various places in Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, North Nazimabad, Orangi Town and North Karachi.
Replying to newsmen questions, Naimatullah Khan said that 278 new vehicles are registered in Karachi daily. In order to ensure smooth traffic flows, flyovers are being constructed and roads' condition are being improved.
He said ambulances must have an allocated route so that patients could reach hospital in time. He said on an average six heart patients die while on way to hospital.
To another question, the Nazim said his life is like an open book and his honesty and integrity cannot be challenged.
He said the NAB chief has already stated that no inquiry is being carried out against him and his performance had been praised by the President, too.
Naimatullah Khan said he has worked on the principles of trust, honesty and transparency and everyone has to be himself accountable for his deeds before God.
