Zone 3 between 3129-3152m produced 2979 bbl/day crude oil and 5.3 mmscf/day gas at 2041 psi following wellhead pressure, through 32/64 inch choke.
The company added that testing of the remaining prospective zones is in progress. After that, the consortium will be conducting further extended tests to evaluate the size and economic potential of the reserves.
The block was explored in 1999 by a consortium of the OGDC, PPL, POL, GHPL and MOL. MOL is the operator of the joint venture.
MOL said that exploration activity resulted in discovery of Manzal-I well in December 2002. It added that following the first discovery, the consortium decided to continue the exploration in the block and seismic acquisitions were performed in 2003.
It added that after geological prospect, the consortium decided to drill the new exploratory well (Makor-I) in 2004. The well was spudded in March 2004 and reached the targeted depth in December last year.
MOL's discovery is very important for Pakistan's oil and gas sector. The government is expecting more foreign oil and gas companies for securing concessional areas in this part of the country to increase Pakistan's oil and gas production.
MOL's acting chief for Pakistan Sajjad Ahmed told Business Recorder that his company was listed at the Hungarian stock lists and commercialisation of the second discovery was a good sign for it and its shareholders, who would get better returns on their investment.
