National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has provided online facility to cell-phone companies for verification of particulars of their customers before giving connections to them. Chairman, Nadra Brigadier Saleem Ahmed Moeen (Retd) said in a briefing to newsmen at Nadra provincial headquarters here on Friday.

The companies can verify the particulars within seconds, he said, dispelling the impression that there would be any difficulty in this regard. The verification would also help control theft of mobile phone sets and other crimes besides checking terrorist activities, he added.

The chairman said that Nadra has provided the same verification facility to banks also for opening accounts. Nadra would charge Rs 20 for each verification, he added.

He said that Nadra is ready to print forms for the convenience of the customers of PTCL and other phone companies to facilitate them.

To a question, the Nadra chief said that the software which Nadra has developed for computerised passports is most advance and modern in the world having thumb and facial expression verification facility and there is no chance of forgery or fraud.

Several countries of the world have acknowledged this fact and Nadra has even started export of this software to other countries, he added.

Saleem said that Nadra is running all of its projects including child-birth registration without any government grant.

Nadra chief further said that Nadra has prepared a database for 65 million people in the country.

He said that authority has set-up a strong monitoring system to minimise chances of forgery in the issuance of computerised cards.

He urged the people who have got more than one cards in the past to return the extra one otherwise they would have to face legal action as Nadra has prepared list of people having more than one cards.
