Jean-Yves Berthault, Consul General of France in Karachi visited Kabul on the personal invitation of Afghan President Hamid Karzai to attend his investiture ceremony recently. During his visit, by virtue of a presidential decree, Berthault was conferred Mir Masjidi Khan medal, one of the highest Afghan awards, by King Zahir Shah.

Berthault was bestowed with this prestigious honour for promoting bilateral relations between France and Afghanistan during his tenure as the chargé d'affaires of France in Afghanistan.

Earlier, during his assignment in Kabul in the United Nations Secretariat, he had been one of the key diplomatic players paving the way for eventual return of President Hamid Karzai and exiled King Zahir Shah to Afghanistan.-PR
