He said a committee, which had been constituted by the Interior Minster Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, was finalising its detailed recommendations regarding reorganisation of ICT Police to give it fresh impetus to control crime ratio.
On the directives of Interior Minister to overcome traffic problems in Islamabad, Talat Mehmood Tariq disclosed the committee had completed its comprehensive report as how to reduce the traffic burden on the capital's roads and the recommendations would be submitted to the ministry soon.
IGP also realised ICT Police was surviving within the limited available resources and striving hard to uproot corruption and crimes from our society. However, he said the extra hours' duty and low salaries had afflicted several jawans of the force in mental disorder.
There were at least six cases of psycho patients that had been reported in Islamabad Police due 16-hour long VVIP duties, showing the extra working hours of police jawans, he remarked.
Despite meager financial resources and shortage of force strength, he said Islamabad Police would be made a model one with the passage of time.
SSP Islamabad Captain Liaquat Ali Khan (Retd) informed the gathering they were concentrating to control the cases of theft and robberies in Islamabad. However, he said they had succeeded in their strategy to arrest number of dacoit gangs for the last three months, he said adding ICT Police had also recovered ornaments and valuable items worth millions of rupees.
On conclusion of the ceremony, IGP distributed shields and certificates among the best officers and jawans of the force.
SP Investigation, SP Headquarters and other senior officers of Islamabad Police were present on the occasion.
