The District Co-ordination Officer Karachi has directed the Fire Brigade & Civil Defence Department of City District Government to devise foolproof contingency plan for the city in view of disaster caused by Tsunami cyclone in 9 Indian ocean countries. In a letter to the concerned departments, the DCO stated although Pakistan coastline was spared by the grace of Almighty Allah, but the situation warrants immediate precautionary measures to meet such eventualities.

He directed the fire brigade & Civil Defence District Officer to take steps that include co-ordination/liaison with meteorological office for weather forecast/alert, setting up of control rooms at CDGK level, town levels for receiving weather alerts and conveying the same to the media and other public awareness channels besides co-ordinating rescue and relief measures.

The plan also must include check to prevent picnickers from going into deep sea, availability of lifeguards/divers at sea sides, declaration of emergency and activation of emergency procedures at hospitals, rescue centers, requiring navy and army units, alert at control rooms, police stations, KESC, PTCL, sanitation & water department etc in view of the weather alerts.
