The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on Friday announced that its Jhal Magsi South Well No 1 discovery has been a success, which will produce 11 MMCFD gas. Jhal Magsi South No 1 is in Kotra exploration license in Kachhi, Khuzdar districts some 76-km in south-west of Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan. The OGDCL is the operator of Jhal Magsi well South No 1. It is a joint venture and partners included POL, Government Holding (Pvt) Limited (GHPL). The OGDCL, POL and GHPL have 66.5 percent, 28.5 percent and 5.0 percent shares respectively in the joint venture.

Kotra exploration license lies towards northern margin of Kirther foredeep in central Indus basin. The most of the area of Kotra EL is covered by quaternary alluvium. Kotra anticlinal trend riding over a blind thrust that terminates approximately 400 meters below surface is gradually deepening towards north. Thick sequence of shelf edge of Sui main limestone is considered as main objective. Sui main limestone is producing gas at Sui, Uch and Qadirpur gas fields in the north and Mazarani gas field in south of Kotra block.

Jhal Magsi south well No 1 was delineated in Kotra EL area. Drilled and tested with OGDCL is house expertise. The well was drilled to up to 4,290 meters in depth, targeting to expose Sui main limestone formation. Based on the drilling data and electric logs, open holes test was performed.

During the initial testing well has flowed about 11 MMCFD of gas through half-inch choke at wellhead flowing pressure at 1930 PSI.
