President General Pervez Musharraf and Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou on Friday reaffirmed the mutual desire to further consolidate cordial relationship between Pakistan and Morocco. The two leaders exchanged views on matters of common interest to both countries when the Pakistani leader arrived here for a brief visit en route to Latin American countries.

Welcoming President Musharraf, the Moroccan leader said the two OIC members enjoy close brotherly relations, which could be further bolstered through increased trade and economic cooperation.

The President reciprocated Jettou's views, and recalled his visit to Morocco last year, saying during that visit he had useful meetings with Moroccan leadership. Earlier, the host leader received the President upon his arrival at Menara Airport. Minister of State Mrs Nouzha Chekzoumi received the First Lady, Begum Sehba Musharraf.

The President also reviewed guard of honour. Later, Prime Minister Jettou hosted a dinner for the President and his delegation. President Pervez Musharraf made a brief stopover in Istanbul on Friday.

The Turkish President and Mrs Ahmet Necdet Sezer specially came to Istanbul from Ankara to receive the President and Begum Sehba Musharraf. Later, the two Presidents exchanged views on matters of mutual interests and regional and international issues. The Turkish President hosted a lunch in honour of the Pakistani delegation.

Musharraf would also visit Argentina and Mexico and would travel to the United States, France and the UK on his way back home.

Before leaving Islamabad, President Musharraf told reporters he would discuss the need for the resolution of Palestine and Kashmir disputes in his talks with the US, UK and French leaderships during visit to their countries.

"This is the time that the second prong of Enlightened Moderation, the resolution of political disputes must start," he said. President Musharraf said both the Palestine and Kashmir disputes were "absolutely ripe for resolution."

"We have to resolve them (Palestine and Kashmir disputes), that will bring considerable stability in the world," the president said while adding this would be the subject of his major discussion with US President George W Bush, French President Jacques Chirac and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Ihsan-ul-Haq, Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hayat, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar and other officials saw him off at the PAF Base Chaklala.

On the first leg, President Musharraf will visit the Latin American states of Brazil, Argentina and Mexico where, he said, his discussion would focus on increasing economic and trade ties with these countries.

"Our political relations are good with all of them but it need to be consolidated through economic, commerce and trade relations," he added.

A trade delegation is also accompanying the president on the visit to explore ways and means of enhancing economic relations with these countries, primarily in the private sector.

President Musharraf is the first head of the government or state to visit Latin America. Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar and Chairman Export Promotion Bureau are also accompanying the president.
