It was followed by a one-to-one meeting, which was also "held in a cordial manner". Later briefing the newsmen, Information Minister Shaikh Rashid said the two presidents reviewed progress in the global war on terror, and pledged to continue working together, ensuring that the appropriate resources are available."
The information minister read out a joint statement, and said: "President Bush expressed appreciation for Pakistan's efforts in respect of ongoing war on terror."
The joint statement said: "Both the sides also welcomed the progress of the Joint Working Group on Terrorism and Law Enforcement and agreed to further strengthen bilateral co-operation in this regard."
The joint statement also said: "President Musharraf highlighted the need for addressing the underlying causes that have given rise to dissatisfaction and frustration in the Islamic world."
In this connection, it said, President Musharraf recalled his concept of enlightened moderation which envisages co-operation of the United States and other leading world powers in finding solutions to longstanding issues that affect the Muslim world.
Those present in the talks from Pakistan side included Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Information Minister Shaikh Rashid, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to UN Munir Akram, Pakistan's Ambassador-designate to the United States General Jehangir Karamat (Retd) and DCM Mohammad Sadiq.
From the US side, those who attended the meeting included Secretary of State Colin Powell, Adviser to the US President Condoleeza Rice and Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Ms. Christina Rocca.
