The power shortage resulted in the outage of electricity in many areas of the city.
According to official sources, the fault developed at about 6:00 pm in the main Extra High Tension (EHT) line of Korangi West Grid due to which power supply from Bin Qasim Station cut-off immediately. The suspension of Bin Qasim Station resulted in 1,000 MW power shortage.
The sources said that in order to cope with the situation, the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation started to resort rotational loadshedding in the city. The official sources also claimed that the KESC team remained busy in removing the fault and normal power supply to the city was restored soon.
The areas, which experienced power outage included Defence, Clifton, Burns Road, Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, old city areas, Garden, Soldier Bazaar, Lasbella, Liaquatabad, parts of Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PECHS, Bahadurabad, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Malir, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony and Malir Cantt.
PPI adds: Failure of power not only brought miseries to the households but commercial and business activities also were badly affected. Moreover, massive traffic jams were witnessed throughout the city due to non-operative signals. Patients at most of the hospitals also went through severe problems, as the medical facilities remained disturbed.
Four out of five electricity generating units at Bin Qasim Station went out of order causing the blackout. However, electricity to some of the areas was restored at 10.00 pm.
