"The first results have shown that the sugar beet yield is higher than in 2003 while sugar content in beet is lower by about one percent," Ukrstukor said in a statement.
It said farms planned to broaden their harvesting in mid-September.
Earlier this season Ukrtsukor estimated beet yield could reach 21.1 tonnes per hectare and the total crop to reach 16 million tonnes. Last year, Ukraine harvested 13.3 million tonnes of beet with an average yield of 19.9 tonnes.
Producers said Ukraine was likely to produce about 1.6 million tonnes of white sugar from beet in 2004 compared with 1.45 million in 2003.
