An 18-member parliamentary delegation, on a weeklong legislative study tour to India, will have hectic engagements during the stay. The tour has been organised by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat).
The delegation was briefed by Secretary General Lok Sabha, G C Malhotra, Secretary Rajya Sabha, Dr Yogendra Narain and Former Deputy Chairperson and present member of Rajya Sabha, Dr Najma Heptullah on the rules of procedure of bicameral Indian Parliament at the discussion.
During the stay, the delegation will call on Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, besides holding meeting with Speaker Lower House of Parliament, Somnath Chatterjee, External Affairs Minister, K Natwar Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Pakistan's High Commissioner, Aziz Ahmed Khan.
Members of the parliamentary delegation include Gohar Ayub Khan, former Speaker National Assembly and former Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, Syed Naveed Qamar, Hafiz Hussein Ahmed, M. P. Bhandara, Kunwar Khalid Younas, Sherry Rehman-Members of the National Assembly, Mujeebur Rehman Shami, former President CPNE and Safma, Khan Ahmed Goraya, former SG National Assembly, Colonel M Ikramullah Khan (Retd), Journalist and Columnist, Karamat Hussain Niazi, AS (Legislation) National Assembly, Inayatullah Lak, Director (RP) Punjab Assembly. Dr Sajjad Naseer, Punjab University, Bushra Jaffer Malik, World Vision International, Sardar M Yusuf Khan, Chairman, Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, Executive Director, Aasiya Riaz Joint Director and Saima Ali, Project Manager of Pildat.
The parliamentary delegation will also witness the proceedings of the Upper House of Parliament besides interaction with senior persons from leading Indian print and electronic media.
The delegation is also scheduled to have group discussions with the Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy and members of the EC on election system in India on September 2.
The members of the delegation will visit Eastern Punjab and hold meeting with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, besides holding discussion on the rules of procedures of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
