He said the community had high hopes from their second generation, which was well educated and prepared to compete and provide a strong leadership.
He said this in his address at the daylong 18th annual Pakistan Festival, held at the Montgomery Fairgrounds, Maryland, to mark 57th independence anniversary celebrations.
Sadiq asked the immigrants to register themselves as voters and involve themselves in the US political system, which would give them voice in their adopted homeland.
"The beauty of the system is that it grants equal status to nationals, and takes pride that the immigrants have played their part in building this nation," he added.
Later, he gave away an award to outgoing PIA Manager Khalid Hameed in recognition of his meritorious services towards the community.
The day began with flag hoisting and singing of national anthem, and reading of messages.
In his welcome address, on of the organisers Zahid Hameedi said the objective behind holding of the annual festival was to train the tender minds of children of Pakistani immigrants of the rich cultural values and worth emulation heritage.
He also said that it was imperative to register votes and to participate in the elections.
Over 30,000 Pakistani-Americans mainly from Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia, as well as those from the other states attended the festival. There was rush of Pakistani-American families visiting the festival, along with their children.
Pakistan flags adorned the sprawling Fairground. Two voter registration booths were set up where new votes were registered. Stalls set up included those of eatables, handicrafts, traditional Pakistani clothing, jewellery, and audio-video cassettes, bangles and Mehndi.
A music concert was held in which a troupe from Pakistan performed. It included Waris Baig, Najam Sheeraz, Amjad Hussain, Irum Hasan and Yasser Akhtar as well as Pushto singer Mengal Khan.
Children attired in Pakistani costumes were given special prizes.
The Governors of Virginia and Maryland had declared the day as Pakistan Independence Day, to mark the celebrations. The proclamations cited close US-Pakistan relations, lauded the role being played by Pakistani Americans in the consolidation of these bilateral relations.
